July Favorites

I know its cliche to say but I cannot believe we are almost in August?! And in typical British weather fashion we have had hardly any nice weather - I am literally counting down the weeks until I head to Ibiza.

So today I thought I'd share with you what I have been loving for the month of July.

Dr. Lewinns Renunail Nourishing Oil - £11.00

Before I went to Marbella In June I had acrylic nails put on (see post Here) and since have been getting infills to keep them up.  On my first appointment at the salon, the nail technician was horrified by the condition of my cuticles - I have an awful habit of picking them. So she made me promise to give up this habit and start using a nail oil everyday which I have been doing since June.  I will be doing a more in-depth post on my nail care soon but I had to include this Renunail nourishing oil as it has completely transformed my nails.  My cuticle beds are no longer dry and sore but instead healthy looking and moisturised.

Lush Tea Tree Water - £ 7.95

The last few weeks I have been getting a couple of breakout's on my cheeks and T-zone area, which for me luckily is quite rare, and I have been reaching for my Lush tea tree water to tone my face.  I have quite dry sensitive skin so most spot treatments I find to drying and harsh for my skin, but I love this toner.  Its ultra refreshing on the skin, leaving it feeling cool and cleansed - there is no strong chemical smell and it doesn't leave your skin feeling tight like most blemish control toners.  I've been using this twice a day, morning and night, spritzed onto a cotton pad which I swipe over my face.  It's helped to reduce the redness of my blemishes, given me a glow to the skin and so far I haven't had any further breakouts.

Benefit Roller Lash - £19.50

As you probably know from previous posts I am a loyal, to the grave fan of the Maybelline False Lash Effect Waterproof Mascara, I have been for years and I have never found one that has lived up to it.  That was until I had a sample of the Benefit Roller Lash a few months ago and now there is a pretty close contender!  When this mascara launched I'll be honest, I wasn't itching to rush out and try this and if it wasn't for the fact I had a free sample I probably still wouldn't have tried it to this day.  I think this was because I have never been impressed with Benefit mascara before - I must have been the only person in the world who bought the renowned 'They're Real!' mascara and absolutely hate it.  They're Real! did nothing for my lashes at all it didn't hold the curl and I found it transferred under my eye leaving me looking like a panda.  So I had pretty much zero hope for Roller Lash but oh my gosh I have never been so wrong.  I love this mascara! It holds the curl of my lashes, some days I don't even need to curl them which is major for me as I have poker straight lashes, it makes them look super long and thick!!  The only negative with this is that I find it can be a little clumpy and it never completely dries - I don't know if this is just for me but if I touch my lashes throughout the day they have a sticky feel to them?! But anyway I think I've worn this mascara pretty much everyday this month.

Gerard Cosmetics BB Plus Illumination Creme - £22.50
Essence All About..Sunrise Eye Shadow Palette - £3.49 in Wilkinson's (Not Online)

This month I have been completely bathing myself in highlighter.  I love to having glowing/dewy skin all year round but I like to step up my highlighter game during the Summer to get that extreme Jaclyn Hill glow - her highlighter collab with Becca is the next product I'm splashing out on!  I've been mixing a few pumps of the Gerard Cosmetics illuminator in with my foundation for an all over glow then dabbing some extra onto my cheekbones and brow bone before I set with powder.

A bit of a random one but I have also been loving using the Essence Sunrise eye shadow palette as a highlighter this month.  I picked this palette up last year when Essence first launched in Wilkinson's as I am obsessed with shimmery coppers and golds on the eyes during the Summer.  The pigment and finish of these is so impressive considering the palette only costs £3.49 but unfortunately every time I wear these on my eyes I get a really bad reaction.  They make my eyes itchy and stream with tears - I do have sensitive eyes so this is not uncommon for me!  I'd actually put this in my makeup drawer and forgot I even owned it until I had a clear out at the end of June.  I decided to have one last try to see if it still irritated my eyes, which it did, but I also placed some of the cream pearly shade under my brow bone, in the tear duct and down the bridge of my nose and loved the way it looked, so I added some to my cheekbones and it has been love ever since!

Prison Break Season 1-4  - £21.87

Oh my god I do not know how I have never seen this before considering it first aired in 2005?!  For the last two weeks, I have watched episodes back to back every evening - I look forward too it all day in work lol!  I have currently just finished season 1 and just started on season 2.  I wont include any spoilers but this is an American series based on two brothers who are both in the same prison.  It has so many twists and turns you will be on the edge of your seat all night!
Currently Sky On Demand have the complete collection (season 1-4) available to download and watch for free, it is also on Netflix but I have also found the complete box set on Amazon for just £21!

Trey Songz - Trigga Reloaded - £9.99

I have had this album on repeat for the last month and I cannot get enough of it.  It has even replaced my obsession with Chris Brown and Tyga's Fan of a Fan album.  I am obssessed with Trey Songz voice and their isn't one song that I don't like on the album.  If you like R&B I'd definitely give this album a listen.

IMATS Haul

Sorry its taken me so long to get my IMATS haul up, I've had a crazy busy week and just struggled to get round to photographing all my goodies!

This was my first time attending IMATS and it didn't disappoint at all.  I'd heard mixed reviews on the event so was a bit nervous that it wouldnt live up to the expectations I had.  However I loved every minute of my day, I went to the show with my Mum and we arrived at 10am and didn't leave until 4.30pm - we would of happily stayed longer but coulnt risk spending any more money!  I will include some pictures I took throughout the day on my iPhone at the end.

*sorry about the quality of some of these images I think I had the focus off :(

The first stall I visited was Crown Brush, having read all about their brushes online I couldn't resist stocking up.  The choice was insane and I literally didn't know where to start.  I ended up getting nine various different brushes and a pack of their makeup remover wipes as I had forgotten my eye makeup remover for the weekend.  I cannot remember the price of each individual brush but they were priced between £2-£9 and the wipes were £4.

I haven't tried any of the brushes yet, I will post a review once I have, however I have tried the makeup wipes and to be honest I wasn't wowed at all by these.  I am not a makeup wipes kinda girl at all but whilst in makeup school I picked up a pack of the Boots sensitive face wipes and found they were far more effective at removing makeup than these ones.

I am obsessed with Nicole Guierro so had to pick up a pair of the 'Doll Me Up' lashes from Velour as she always looks so amazing in them.  On the Velour Lashes stall they had the gorgeous Nadosh from MakeupbyNadoosh on hand to fit and apply the lashes for you which I thought was a awesome touch to the stall. I'm now regretting not picking up a pair of 'Wispie Sweet Nothings'.

At the Guru makeup stand I picked up the renowned Ben Nye Banana powder. I have wanted this for literally years so couldn't leave it behind. They had various different shades of the powder which I was tempted by but I ended up leaving with just the Banana shade. I also picked up the beauty blender mini solid cleanser to clean my blender.

The queue's for Sigma and NYX were unreal, I kept walking away thinking it must go down at some point but nope it only got bigger!  I decided to brave the Sigma queue fist as I wasn't that desperate to go to NYX and I ended up queueing for well over an hour but I was worth it.

I picked up the LA Girl Pro Coneal in Light Ivory and Beautiful Bronze as I was in the market for a new cream contour. I decided on these concealers as they seem to be another cult favourite, Carli Bybel loves them and they are so cheap!

I also picked up the Milani Baked Bronzer in 04 Glow and the Baked Blusher in 03 Berry Amore which I am obsessed with and I definitely want to get my hands on a few more shades.  The final item I picked up was the Sigma Shimmer Cream in Superb, this was a total impulse buy as they were reduced to £3 (I think!) and I cannot walk away from anything rose gold.

Bottom to Top - Milani baked blush, Milani baked bronzer and Sigma shimmer cream

I don't know if I've been living under a rock but I had never heard of Makeup Studio before IMATS, and oh my god I've been missing out!! First of all I have to say how lovely the girls were who were working on the stand, they were so friendly and happy to answer any question - plus all of their makeup was INSANE!

L-R

picked up the colour pigment in Copper, an eyeshadow lumiere in Ivory Gold which I think will be perfect as a highlighter too and a blusher lumiere in True Terra, the lumiere range is like a baked powder, and a lipstick in shade 27. The girl who served me recommended buying the refill blush and eyeshadow as it worked out way cheaper so I also picked up a  small refill box to keep the two in.

I'm a bit of a magpie to anything sparkly so I couldn't walk past the Eye Kandy Cosmetics stall with out stopping to take a look. The lady on the counter demonstrated how these glitters work and once I saw them applied to the skin I couldn't walk away without any. I got their kit which included a 1oz bottle of cosmetic adhesive (which gives 400 applications), a choice of 3 glitters and a mini application brush - I went for a gold, a limited edition rose gold colour and a turquoise.  Basically to use these you dip the brush into the liquid adhesive then into the pot of loose glitter then apply how and where you wish. They dry almost instantly and are removed with one swipe of a makeup wipe with absolutely no mess!

The last thing I picked up was a lipstick from Inglot, I wanted something a little different so opted for #161 which is a shimmery gold shade which I think will be prefect for when the sun is shining.

Here are some pictures I snapped on my iPhone whilst at IMATS!

WOMF: Day to Night

Today I have another what's on my face post which are both makeup looks I wore whilst away in London. On the Saturday I had a packed day where I was going to IMATS then out for cocktails and food in the evening so I wanted my makeup to last all day as I was applying it at around 8AM and I only had time to quickly touch up after IMATS before I headed back out.

I usually end to wear neutral tones with my makeup on a day to day basis but as I was heading to IMATS I went for something a little more glamourous with a stronger contour and brighter lip.

Face:
Benefit Porefessional Primer
Clinique Beyond Perfecting foundation (7) mixed with Gerard Cosmetics Illuminating BB cream - applied with a damp beauty blender
Maybelline Dark Circle Eraser concealer in light
Illamasqua loose translucent powder
Nars Laguna Bronzer
Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour kit - fawn/Java and banana
Nars Orgasm Blush
Estée Lauder heatwave highlighter

Eyes:
Urban Decay Naked3 - nooner, trick and darkside
Maybelline Black Gel Eyeliner
Maxfactor False Lash Effect Mascara in Black Waterproof
Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade in Dark Brown

Lips:
Sephora Lip Liner to Go in 02 Fresh Melon
Sephora Cream Lip Stain in 09 Watermelon Slice

Velour Lashes were in IMATS so I had to pick myself up a pair of their famous 'Doll me up lashes' and I am in love, they are now my favourite lashes by far! The stunning Nadoosh from MakeupbyNadoosh  was on hand on the Velour lash counter to fit and apply your lashes of you.

Just after I had my lashes applied!

To then take my makeup into a more evening look I deepened the eyeshadow by applying more of 'darkside' from the Naked 3 palette and accentuated my winged black gel liner.

I intensified my contour using more of the 'fawn' shade from the ABH contour palette and then used the shade 'vanilla' to highlight and carve out the contour further.

I decided to completely change my lip for the evening and went for my trusty Mac a whirl lip liner, paired with Velvet Teddy lipstick and a touch of Estée Lauder

City Styling

Last weekend I headed to London for a few days full of shopping, cocktails and lots of makeup! The main reason I went to London was to go to IMATS, I've never been before and it totally lived up to all my expectations. I will be doing a separate post on my IMATS experience and what I bought.

I was meant to be making a London inspired look book of what I wore for the three days I was away but I ended up only liking what I wore on the Saturday, so here it is.

On Saturday, myself and my mum headed to IMATS. It was boiling hot in London so I wanted something light and cool to wear.

Strobing: Current Favourite Highlight Combination

I only recently became familiar with the term strobing after seeing half of Instagram going mad for this 'new' technique. So for those that don't know 'strobing' its basically highlighting - something that many of us have been doing forever.

I am all about having that glowing, dewy look to my skin and have tried many different types and brands of highlighters over the years (read my holy grail highlighters post Here). Recently I've been obsessed with a new combination of products that I've been using every day for the past few weeks that I have to share.

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Bronze
Topshop Butterscotch Blush - cannot find online

L-R Makeup revolution highlighter, Bobbi Brown shimmer brick, Topshop blush

After I've applied my base (foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer/contour) I then like to apply this combination instead of blusher - blush can be added this is just how I like to wear it.

First I apply the Topshop blush to the apples of my cheeks and blend up onto my cheekbones. Next I go over the same area with the Bobbi Brown shimmer brick and then finish off I apply the Makeup Revolution highlighter to the highest part of my cheek bones.

To complete the 'strobing' look I then apply the same Makeup Revolution highlighter down my nose, on my brow bone, above my brows, min the tear duct and on my cupids bow.

What do you think of the 'strobing' trend?
