Mini Illamasqua Haul

Believe it or not when I was in London completing the MUA course I hardly bought any makeup!  I don’t know why this was; I had planned on raiding the Selfridges beauty hall but just didn’t get round to it.

When I did go shopping I spent most of my time in clothes shops stocking up on a summer wardrobe for my upcoming holidays (look book coming soon!).
We did however have a course trip to the Illamasqua boutique in Soho? One evening where they were offering a 20% off discount to the London School of Makeup students.  Over the first week I made up a list of products I had used in the school and wanted to pick up for myself.  I didn’t go crazy at all and here’s what I bought.

Before studying at LSM, translucent powder is something I shied away from and always overlooked.  I think the whiteness of the powder used to put me off, being a fake tan lover why would I then want to plaster white powder all over my face?!   I usually use Nars loose powder in Beach or Rimmel Stay Matte powder.  But oh my god since trying this Illamasqua powder I literally cannot use anything else.  It feels like silk on the skin, is ultra-lightweight and doesn’t leave a chalky/cakey look.  This powder would suit any skin tone – I used it on light medium and even dark skin.  I now can’t remember how I used to set my makeup without this.

This eye shadow is just the dream!! This is a matte shadow and on the website is described as a ‘rich chocolate plum’ shade but I would say it is more purpley than brown.  We all used to fight to use this shadow on the course, it works with every skin type and can be worn on its own or incorporated into a Smokey eye.   I fell in love with a number of the Illamasqua eye shadows but this one was my favourite.

I had also wanted to also pick up the Lip colouring pencil in Fantasy  and their pure pigment in ‘ore’.  The lip liner is the perfect pinky/brown, which I thought was very similar to the Charlotte Tilbury lip cheat in 'Pillow Talk' and I was absolutely gutted that they had sold out.

When I was paying the girl who served me had the most stunning eye shadow on which she told me was the Pure Pigment in Ore. I loved it so much and I thought I'd asked the girl for two, one for me and one for a friend.  But long story short (after a panic of thinking I'd lost one), I realised I had only bought actually bought one which I gave to my friend, so I definitely will be going to pick myself up one of these beauties!

What are your favourite Illamasqua products?

Holiday Beauty Essentials

This Sunday I'm heading off for a week in sunny Marbella! I'm so excited I cannot wait to be sitting pool side sipping cocktails in the heat.

Being complete beauty junkie I thought I'd show you my must have summer holiday beauty essentials. These products I take away with me every year without fail and would panic without them being packed in my case.

Moisturiser with a gradual tanner - My absolute favourite is the Garnier Summer Body  in Deep which I like to use instead of an after sun, by applying this every night I keep up a sun kissed look for the whole holiday!

I love to take Benefit Hoola Bronzer away with me, it's the perfect shade for summer and is such a handy size for travelling.

Max Factor False Lash Effect  Mascara - ain't got no time for panda eyes round by the pool or in the heat!!

A liquid illuminator - I am currently obsessed with the Gerard Cosmetics BB Plus Illumination . On holiday I like to wear this mixed in with my foundation during the evenings or I just apply a touch to my cheek bones, brow bone and down the bridge of my nose for around the pool.

Malibu Bronzing Tanning Oil 15 - I love an tanning oil with SPF for my holidays and this one from Malibu has a tan enhancer in it. I've used this for the last few years and absolutely love it! I also take a factor 30 cream for the first day and I apply this to my face everyday to avoid wrinkles!

Bright Lipsticks - my classic summer makeup look is super bronzed skin, gold eyes and a bright lip. At the moment these are the two lipsticks I cannot get enough of and will definitely be taking away with me. They are Chanel Rouge Coco in 56 (I cannot find the exact one online) and Mac Morange

Clinique CC Cream  - this is the perfect base for holiday, it provides a light base for the day or can be built up for a full evening coverage.

Batiste Dry Shampoo - I could not go on holiday with out a bottle of dry shampoo. Perfect for the evenings when you've had one too many pool side cocktails and can't quite manage to wash your hair or for the nights you just want some extra volume!

So there you have my must have holiday beauty products. What are your holiday essentials, I'd love to know?!

I will be creating a Marbella look book whilst on holiday so keep your eyes peeled in the next few weeks for that.

London: The London School of Makeup

The whole purpose of my two week trip to London was to attend the London School of Makeup. Going to makeup school has been something I've wanted to do since I was 16, but with the courses being pretty pricey I've never been in the position to until now I'm in full time employment.

I knew I wanted to attend a makeup school in London so after weeks of researching all the different schools I finally decided on the London School of Makeup. The main reason I chose this school was due to the fact that you complete the International Makeup Artist (IMA) certificate, the IMA are an awarding body independent from the school. "This internationally recognised qualification is not an in house schools attendance certificate instead it is a completely independent from the school and is offered in many schools throughout the world from Spain to Dubai and the UK to Moscow".

The majority of the other schools I looked at offered the complete course in one go which would mean staying in London and attending school for anything between 8 and 12 weeks. However the at the LSM they either offer the course straight up for 8 weeks or allow you to complete two weeks at a time. This suited me perfectly as in the long run I couldn't quit my job to take this course so instead I can complete it bit by bit within two years.

So this time I completed the first of the 2 week course's which was the foundation IMA certificate. This covered all the basics including skin types, colour correcting, foundation matching, bronzing, blush, shading, highlighting, eyes and lips.  We also created day, evening, vintage and bridal looks within the two weeks.

Each day at the school was different but followed the basic principle of a lesson/theory in the AM from the teaching Makeup artist and then the afternoon was where we paired up and got to try out the techniques learnt in the morning.

During my two weeks at the LSM my group had two different teachers - Amanda for the first four days then Ava for the remaining time. Each were so lovely and willing to answer any questions, I found their methods of teaching easy to understand and they made you feel so at ease throughout the course.

I learned some valuable tips and tricks whilst at the school and was able to play around and experiment with products I usually wouldn't have thought to try, there were various different brands to use including MAC, Bobbi Brown, Nars, Illamasqua, Ben Nye, Makeup forever, Sleek and MUA to name a few.

The exams were held over the last two days of the course. This was made up of a written multiple choice exam and then a practical exam where you had to create a day and evening look. I was thrilled that I passed both parts of the exams and even managed to score 100% in the written test!

Below are just a couple of pictures of the different looks created.

On the whole my experience at the school was amazing, I enjoyed all aspects of the course - I just wish I could have stayed for longer!
I made the most wonderful friend through the course who I know will be friends for life. We spent the whole two weeks trying all the different restaurants on the street for lunch and then spent most evenings enjoying a few cocktails or glasses of wine. We all wished we could have stayed forever!

If you have any further questions about the course I'd love to answer them!  I can't wait until I get the chance to go back and complete the next two weeks of the qualification which is the Creative course.

London: My First Weekend

As you probably know on the 25th April I went to London for two weeks to attend the London School of Makeup. I was very lucky that my cousins have a flat in Kings Cross, which they weren't using for the two weeks so I was able to stay there.  My parents drove me up on the Saturday and stayed a night to get me all settled in.

This was what I wore to travel up to London, I wanted to be casual and comfy but still stylish.  I wore my ASOS Ridley skinny jeans which are the most flattering and comfy jeans I've ever owned, This ASOS black vest top, an oversized cardigan and fedora from Primark, my Nike Air Max Thea's and Michael Kors  handbag.

We arrived in London at around 2.30pm dumped all my stuff at the flat and headed straight out for a drink. A few people had recommended going down to Canary Warf for the bars and atmosphere so that's where we went.
I had never been before and was slightly disappointed with the area, I was left feeling a bit like 'is this it?'. I'm not sure if we maybe didn't explore enough - the weather turned grey and cold just as we arrived - or if this just isn't the area for bars with lots of atmosphere.

Canary Warf with Mum.

After Canary Warf we headed to Covent Garden, which is a safe bet for bars and restaurants. At first I wanted to eat at the Big Easy but with it being a Saturday night and we hadn't booked so there wasn't a table until 10.45pm (sob!), so the Big Easy is still on my 'places to eat in London' list.

Once in Covent Garden we headed to Tutton's, which is on Russell Street, and is a gorgeous bar and restaurant I discovered when I was last in London which was last July.  The bar is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine or two, I've never eaten in the restaurant but I've heard pretty good things about it.

We then headed to Leicester Square for another glass of wine and eventually ended up in another favourite spot for dinner. L'ulivo is a traditional family run Italian on Villiers Street, this is about the third time I've been here in the past few years and I always have a gorgeous meal. You can tell everything is made from scratch and is authentic Italian food.

We shared a few starters including calamari and cheesy mushrooms, then it was Pizza's for my parents and spinach and ricotta cannelloni for me with a side of fries to share - it was delicious.

To well and truly finish off the night we ended up in Häagen-Dazs. I had a scoop of baileys and a scoop of chocolate praline with the crunchy nuts on top....heaven!! However not so heavenly for the waistline.

My half eaten, quick snap while heading for the tube!

The following day we ventured out to find the school so I would know exactly where I was going on the Monday morning - I am not the best with directions -  and it took us all of 2 minutes to find. The school is on Johns Prince's street which is literally just off Oxford Street and is in the most central perfect location - opposite BHS for anyone familiar with the area.

Over the next week or so I will be writing a bit of a London 'series' rather than cramming it all into one giant, hard to read post. Hope you've enjoyed more of a lifestyle post from me today, they are something I want to continue to blog in the future.

Where are your favourite places to eat in London? Share your favourites with me on Instagram and Twitter, I'd love to hear from you!

My MAC Lipsticks.

I can't believe it's been two whole weeks since I last posted! My two weeks in London were just crazy busy and finding the time to blog was almost impossible. I managed to take a few snaps throughout my trip which I will be putting into a post soon though.

Today I wanted to share with you my MAC lipstick collection.  I remember saving up and buying my first MAC lipstick when I was 17, it was the first Viva Glam Lady Gaga, which I still have and love too this day.

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with MAC lipsticks. I love their colour range and the pigment is amazing but hate the fact that they seem to be very drying on my lips - even the more creamy formulas. However, I still continue to lust after them and pick up a new shade every so often.

L-R
Morange - amplified
Chatter Box - amplified
Saint Germain - amplified
Creme d'Nude - cremesheen
Velvet Teddy - matte
Russian Red - matte
Heroine - matte
All Fired Up - matte
Viva Glam Lady Gaga #1 - lustre

**Please don't judge Creme d'Nude, I left him in my bag on top of a radiator without realising it was on!

As you can see I have a very varied selection of the shades and finishes Mac have to offer. With the summer coming I'm looking forward to bringing out Morange, Heroine and Saint Germain again, these work so well with a suntan.

My favourite has to be Velvet Teddy which I pair with Whirl lip liner ( a la Kylie Jenner obvs) I find it a really easy combination to wear which goes with pretty much all makeup looks.

What are your favourite Mac lipsticks?
